Miss Young

Hello, I am Miss Young. I received the following email. It is a socalled "Advance Fee Fraud" letter, where I am promised millions for my assistance. These stories are all lies, and if I respond, sooner or later I will be asked to pay a fee. If I pay, another fee will quickly come up, and it will continue that way until I give up or run out of money. I will never see the millions, because they never existed.

Temat: Greeting from Ambassador Patricia Mahoney, U.S. Ambassador to Benin.

My name is Patricia Mahoney, the U.S. Ambassador to Benin. I am a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor. I was sworn in as Ambassador to the Republic of Benin on January 18, 2019, in Washington, D.C.

I am writing this day to inform you about the meeting that was held with representatives of the 15 member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the ECOWAS Headquarters, Cotonou, Benin, on December 22th, 2019 regarding your complaints received that you were scammed by some banks and individuals from the West African countries. An agreement was reached that a certified bank draft in the sum of $750,000.00 USD would be issued under your name and sent to your address via a Postal Mail Service. It is in the form of Compensation for all the money and time you have wasted in waiting for your funds to be released. Congratulations! The $750,000.00 USD Compensation Fund has been instructed to be paid to you in the form of a CERTIFIED BANK DRAFT which will be issued in Standard Chartered Bank. The said BANK DRAFT will be packaged inside a U.S. Embassy Official envelope to be delivered to you via Postal Mail at no cost to your mailing address. And the time frame for delivery is 48 hours, which is 2 days since it would be sent via a Postal Mail Service.

Meanwhile, a Clearance must be obtained from the Benin Customs Authority which you, as the beneficiary, will be required to pay. I don't know how much is the cost of the certificate; I will ask them once you respond to this email. Once the certificate is paid for and is issued, I will personally make sure that the BANK DRAFT and the document well packaged together inside the U.S. Embassy Official envelope for immediate dispatch to your mailing address.

Congratulations once again.

Thank you,
Ambassador Patricia Mahoney.
Greeting from Ambassador Patricia Mahoney, U.S. Ambassador to Benin.
