Barrister Doncan Smith says: "You are therefore advised not to go to the Embassy"
Hello, I am Miss Young. I received this from a friend in Cameroon. Let me call him Jean. Go to the homepage to see more stories.
It's a pleasure writing to you after discovering your website. I have just finished browsing through it. It's so rich and my only worry is the small number of persons that may be aware of such a site and the large number still subject to be duped. How I wish every one knew. Being an African It hurts me from the deepest part of my heart that our brothers and sisters turn to do this. Sometimes I feel so ashamed of just saying I am from Africa because the first thing that comes to the mind of the person I am talking to is "cheating, duping or swindling." This image is affecting us daily; in business, job markets, cultural exchange and even social life.
Although looking through your samples I didn't find any from my country, I know they exist and sooner or later you will get some. I am Cameroonian and as close as we are to Nigeria I am very sure they'd give it to us just the way they recently did with bird flu. May be Cameroon is just still backward in the business and has not yet hit the scam market the way Nigerians and others have done.
It's not like I have anything against them or kind of saying the best thing to do is to expose them as you are trying to do, but I just feel it is not the right way for my brothers and sisters doing this, whatever history we Africans have (as mentioned in one of the letters written to you). If we are less developed I think it is just a phase that's going to pass. Everyother country in the world had once been less developed. If we have wars in Africa i think it's just a phase that's going to pass.
If duping our colonial masters were a solution and good what explanation would scammers give to cases where they dupe their own brothers and sisters having the same history with them?
That's what happened to me in 2004. Unfortunately I didn't know of your website by then. So I got so disturbed after reading the samples you have on site and not seeing any similar to the one that befell me or us in 2004. Or may be I was foolish it wasn't a scam. Sure it was. I feel worried that none of such has been mentioned. These are the highlights of the scam: If you would like to include it on your website then i will forward to you documents, addresses etc that were used on us. I burnt many in my own way of trying to forget the mess but sure I still have some in my email.
Scam highlights: Organizations that claim to be organizing youth conferences in cities in the US and extensions of the same conferences in African countries (Guinea Bissau) in my case. Inviting groups of 10 persons and offering free round trip tickets, lodging, etc. Well you obviously know of this. Why didn't you mention it in one of your sample stories? It befell us (a group of ten) in Cameroon. ... It's bad memory to me and each time I mention it I get back the whole image of how it all happened. Hate to talk about it.
           Hope to read from you.
           Jean.
I ask Jean to send me his story.
Thanks for your response.
Though I hate having a re look at some of those documents, I will forward to you some I have been able to trace. Remember as I said i burnt many and deleted many because I was so scared of being in position of such documents especially those carrying US seals. I have been trying to find the original letter that was sent but couldn't since the whole process took about a month period involving a lot of emails. However I will just forward to your mail some of the last letters and attached documents we got from them at the advanced stage of the deal. I hope you can open the attached documents and include them on the section of fake documents on your website. Before proceeding to do the fowarding I would like to say or ask you to protect my personal information for my own safety. It's only two years back and I am still not safe from them and others. You will follow the trend of events on how the scam was working by reading the letters they sent to me and the replies I sent but I do not think it will be necessary to publish my replies to them ...
Some important information to help you understand how it worked:
1. You will find the following email address: xxxxx @yahoo.fr used during the process. That is the email address of our youth association in Cameroon (CYA).
2. The big name that was used through out this deal was a certain Barrister Duncan Smith as you will see, author of most of the letters.
3. The hotel name that was used was a certain Hotel XXXXX in Guinea Bissau where the second half of the supposed conference was going to take place. The deal was that we were to pay for our hotel lodging there because it was in Africa and US sponsors didn't cover that. All else was to be free. So our group of ten which I was leading sent money to this hotel through western union. We were sure because the big point had been settled and that's where they got us in. We were to send the money addressing it to ourselves. This meaning that when we got to the said hotel in Guinea bissau for the conference then we would cash the money ourselves at western union. At this level even the most hesitant members of our group paid in their contributions immediately. We all filled the form at western union together making sure everything was so well done, after all as you can imagine the ten were all the top intellectuals of the CYA. The million dollar question miss Young is how the hell the bastards cashed the money at western Union in Guinnea Bissau. When we realized it was all fake after getting stranded in Yaounde we still had something to console us. The fact that we atleast trusted western Union and so thought we could cash back our money and may be loose just the charges involved. The death shocking news came at the same western Union agency where we had sent the money when the lady at the computer testified that the money had been cashed in Guinnea Bissau by the dued receiver (one of ours) who was standing right there in front of her. And they had a signed receiver's sheet to prove this. We got the sheet and started the kind of procedure any one would. I for one, I thought western union had really got into some shit and would pay for it dearly but sooner or later we gave up. We were made to understand that for this kind of problem we had to deal directly with the western union headquarters somewhere in Brussels or something of the sort i can't remember well. Guess, we didn't even have the first franc to hire a lawyer and start this kind of procedure.
Last year after sharing the experience with a friend he told me how it must have worked out. They might have used the information from our passport pages we had forwarded to them earlier in the deal to make a fake ID card and cash the money.
Needless Miss Young to say how devastating that outcome was on the CYA. Everyone lost confidence in us and the association went down to nothing. I have carried the blame ever since and many still think i got the money somehow except the almighty who knows the truth.
These details are for you since you said you don't yet know how the Youth Conferences scam works. Hope you will understand the files i will send to you. Don't forget to publish the famous name Duncan Smith of the US state department. That name alone can help many out of the trap.
               Sincerely
               Jean

Quite an impressive document, but a closer look shows that it is fake. The logo in the top is from the "Office of Surface Mining". They have nothing to do with VISAs, they regulate coal mining!

The signature of Mr Ward is in fact the signature of President Ulysses S. Grant. He died in 1893.

The signature of Mr Jackson is in fact the signature of President William Howard Taft. He died in 1930.

The pictures in the bottom are copies of ordinary american stamps.

Bosibori from Kenya also received the invitation. Here are her comments from www.takingitglobal.org:

DEAL TOO GOOD
I too received the same invitation, which as the order goes, the conference has to be held in some state in the US then proceed to Guinea Bissau and one has to make a reservation in Guinea.
But then the deal seemed so good to be true because of the offer to pay for all your expenses but reservation at an Hotel In Guinea.
Confirming the validity through the Google search, I found testimonies of people who had fallen victims of the same.
But we should take caution of these conferences that are not broadcasted.
End of story.
