I give Chew a status:

Dear Chew, The courier company has contacted me and say that the consignment now is in Dublin. They want me to go there. I don't know if I can trust them, all they have given me is an emailaddress and a mobile phonenumber. They also want me to bring 12,650 plus 810 per day until I go to Dublin. I have to inform you that I can not raise that much with such short notice. Lets say that I can raise the 12,650 in 10 days, then it is to no use, because we still lack 8,100. I can't see how this can be solved. Have you any suggestions? Regards, ..

I often get into problems when I travel. This time is no exception, so I have to inform Chew and Paul:

Dear friends, I have bad news. My trip to Dublin ended in Gatwich Airport, London. I was arrested and it turned out that the money I picked up yesterday could be traced back to a bank robbery 3 month ago. I had nothing to do with it, but because I could not explain my whereabouts at that time, FBI wants me back to the states for further questioning. They have taken my laptop, but I managed to send this from the Airport lounge. I will return on a plane later this evening. Sorry for all this mess, but I hope we can continue our business when FBI is finished with me. ...

Subject: Re: SUGGESTIONS

Dear Miss Young, How sad that you can not make it here!
I will assist you do not despair. I will need you to send the required funds over in some way and with your authorisation will introduce you to a bank that would accept the funds from where you may make transfers and withdrawals. I am under tremendous pressure regarding the cost of storage which I have promised you -- will be paid once you have taken delivery, so please we need to complete this in a few days in order to prevent further charges.
My suggestion is for you to send the US$12,650 by 'WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER' in (3) three different transaction to our account officers below:
1. SARAH PUTTER, Union house 12 Rivermill road - navan, Ireland. (US4,250)
2. JAMES HARNEY, Union house 12 Rivermill road - navan, Ireland (US$4,250)
3. CAROLINE PARKIN, Union house 12 Rivermill road - navan, Ireland (US$4,150)
Due to money transfer restrictions I will recommend you make the transfers one a day so in three days you have sent all that is needed. Endeavour to complete this before friday to ensure everything at this end goes smoothly. DO NOT DISCLOSE TO WESTERN UNION WHY YOU ARE SENDING MONEY, JUST SAY YOU ARE SENDING TO A FRIEND. THIS IS FOR SECURITY REASONS.
I wait on your urgent response so we can proceed immediately!
Sincerely, Paul Walto.

Dear Paul, I understand your suggestion for me to pay you in 3 installments. But I need some assurance, apart from your word, that I will receive the consignment. I would prefer that you send one of your account officers to collect the money. I will pay for the extra expense involved. Your company is to anonymous for me to just trust you on your word. You haven't even told me the address of your company. Regards, ...

Dear Miss Young, The address of our company is 'Union house 12 Rivermill road - navan, Ireland'. I want you to understand here that I do not have to convince you about anything really, do not forget I am the one who is trying to assist you here. If you prefer to send funds to One account Officer rather than Three then choose anyone of the names you have and send the funds. The main reason why you have to send in three different instalments is that 'WESTERN UNION' have limit and when you exceed that limit could cause you problems at your end.; and so far I think you do not need any more problems than you already experienced. I am already doing so much to protect your interest here. Sincerely, Paul Walto.

End of story after a more than 4 month chase of $410m+.

Much much later, on January 19, 2006, I receive this email from M.S.:

First of all, THANK YOU for taking the time to learn that this SPAM email is a scam. So many people have been hurt and abused by these scammers. I greatly appreciate understanding that it truly is fraud.

The story of Mr. Chew is a fascinating. I wish you could send this story out in masses. I plan to forward it to my friends and family so that they are aware of the scam. I've been getting this type of SPAM mail since I took a business trip to Ivory Coast. I left my business card with my email address with several government officials...I assume that's how I got dropped into the SPAM pool! I normally get the emails from Nigeria, however, lately I've been getting emails from China. Whereas Mr. Chew may have been fingered...there are others taking his place. I've forwarded my latest email to you below.

Again, Thank you for doing such a good job of discovering who is real and you isn't...I greatly appreciate you!

Toward the end of my service with Bank of China where I worked for many years, several of my colleagues and I set up companies with which we successfully secured loans for speculation in Hong Kong and Singapore stocks and real estate. We did this because it had dawned on us that we were paid barely enough to feed our families while top government officials control billions of dollars.

The bank along with regulatory authorities from China and Hong Kong started an investigation into the losses of money and as a result a few of my colleagues and I went into hiding and have settled ourselves and our families.Due to our positions as being involved with the initialinvestigation, we cannot receive this money by ourselves or in our names at this time . Furthermore we had decided to remove this money and divide it accordingly pending when the investigation dies down.

This has occurred and I cannot leave the money unattended for much longer for fear that it might be discovered. I hereby solicit your assistance to help take delivery of my share of this funds totaling One hundred and Twenty Eight million, Four Hundred Thousand United States Dollars into your custody ,and you will be adequately compensated with 20% of the entire sum.
