Subject: AMERICAN HURRICANE REBUILDING PROJECT
Dear Applicants,
Thanks for applying to assist in the American Hurricane Rebuilding
project. America is about to launch the largest rebuilding effort in our
history. The American Planning Association, representing 780,000 members
and 293,000 Americans employed by the organization believes the long
term hurricane disaster recovery effort needs to be done right from the
start if taxpayers dollars are to be wisely invested. To accomplish this
goal, federal rebuilding effort need to be based on sound planning and
design principles at every step. This is why APA and AIA is submitting
legislative proposals that covers a broad range of issues involving the
built environment. Even as emergency efforts continue, an urgent need
exists to begin planning for an orderly transition from temporary
solutions to permanent solutions where the lives and hopes of affect! ed
d people and communities - not just buildings and infrastructure- are
rebuilt. Therefore, The APA has strongly urges the inclusion of local
architects and foreign workers from all the world at every step of the
planning and rebuilding process and at every level of government
policymaking.Local architects have already started doing their part to
assist local governments conduct structural assessments and do long term
community design planning. The APA is sending both disaster
assessment teams and design assistance teams to affected areas that will
be made up of architects and related professionals. These
volunteers are donating their time and efforts to help ascertain the
status of structures in the impacted areas and to assist in the
rebuilding of damaged structures and in the planning of new communities
