Subject: We also have been scammed!
Miss Young,
we came upon your site by searching the alleged shipper by the name of
Lymax Shipping given to us by someone going by the name of Papa.
We placed our food cart for sale on craigslist and received an immediate
response from papa_joke7. We had
hesitation from the name alone but only thought it was just a quirky name.
After going back in forth by e-mail correspondance we received a check for
more than double the asking price we set to sell our cart. The cashiers check
was deposited into our account and we explained to him that we wanted to wait
until the check cleared. This guy became very anxious and tried rushing us to
wire transfer the difference for shipping. I held ground and told him that by
no means, any transactions would take place while the check was awaiting
clearance from the bank. He seemed to agree and waited 5 days. The fifth day
is today as I am writing this e-mail but what happened earlier today was kind
of ironic.
Before work today I checked my account to see if the money was still
available. The money posted and seemed to be cleared but I somehow felt that
the whole situation was still weird. When I went to work I had a chance to
read our local newspaper. When I got to the business section there was an
article with this headline- "No Protection by
banks for check scams". As I read on I
discovered that the people who were written about in the article had almost
the same exact situation I was going through. All the signs and more popped in
my head: selling an item over the internet, correspondance through e-mail only
(even when he said he would personally call me), a check with twice as much as
I asked for, asking me to wire the difference and he included a
shippers name ( Lymax Shipping Agent) with an e-mail (lymax_shipper@hellokitty.com).
After many e-mails asking for his full name, address and phone (which he
ignored) I did not wire any money today.
I checked my account tonight and as I suspected, the money is gone. He
also wrote today, here is his e-mail letter:
Im still waiting for the details inorder for the
mover to carry out the services...
Your swift reply is needed.
Regards
I suspect that this is his last e-mail to me because I did not write
back. Needless to say I did not lose any money just wasted time. The local people who are truely
interested in our hot dog cart will be hearing from us shortly. If I ever
sell anything it will only be face to face for now on. I will also be checking
the web every so often to see if he is trying to use my name or my company
name for any reason.
Also, this guy speaks in very broken english, here is a
previous e-mail he sent to me:
